Though the original children’s book Where the Wild Things Are runs only ten sentences long, Spike Jonze’s new movie of the same name has an awful lot to live up to. The beloved book by author and illustrator Maurice Sendak is a sparse, peculiar choice for adaptation to the big screen, and ultimately the lack of substance in the movie betrays its short, simple roots. What makes for a great five minute story does not, unfortunately, make for a great ninety minute movie.
